So, in this installment, I'm going to briefly explain what these popular creative settings, including Omegaverse, are all about! Since there are nuances in each individual work, I'll focus on the aspects that are largely common across them!

【Omegaverse・Dom/Sub・Cakeverse】The Three Major Creative Settings in the BL World! Do You Know What These Three Settings Are?

Omegaverse (Attribute)

Depicted Special Genders: α, Ω, β
Characteristics of Each Gender
  • α: Dominant class, prone to higher intelligence and elite qualities.
  • β: Middle class, the most numerous.
  • Ω: Lower class, subjected to regular “heat cycles,” which cause them to be socially disadvantaged.

First up is Omegaverse, which has become quite famous in the creative community! The unique feature here is that in addition to the usual male and female genders, there are also inherent genders of α, Ω, and β!

The issue with Ω's “heat cycle” is that it uncontrollably agitates the nerves of any nearby α, causing social problems. As a solution, if an Ω can secure an α as their “mate,” they can instinctively suppress their pheromones. Thus, many works in this Omegaverse setting focus on the relationship between α and Ω. (Of course, there are also many works from a β perspective!)

Dom/Sub

Described unique genders: Dom, Sub
Characteristics of each gender
  • Dom: Receives trust from Sub and protects Sub. Has a desire to dominate Sub.
  • Sub: Entrusts trust to Dom and is protected by Dom.

Personally, I've noticed that the number of creative works featuring this Dom/Sub (Universe) setting has been increasing lately! This Dom/Sub setting also includes a periodic 'mating season,' or times when one can't control their own desires. How to fight against these instincts, and the story that unfolds considering that aspect, is really captivating!

Cakeverse

Described unique genders: Cake, Fork (There are also people who don't have the gender of Cake or Fork)
Characteristics of each gender
  • Cake: A gender of people who are inherently born 'delicious'.
  • Fork: A gender of people who find the flesh and bodily fluids of Cake to be 'delicious.' Mostly acquired, and for some reason have lost their sense of taste.

This Cakeverse is also gradually increasing in popularity, much like the Dom/Sub setting! Basically, if a Cake gets found out, they may be 'eaten'...... by Forks, so they generally hide their secondary gender. However, the excitement comes when for some reason they get discovered by the Forks, and how the Forks deal with this revelation is the real highlight!

So, that's the gist of it! Each work has its own nuances and unique settings, and the charm lies in the creative differences! Knowing these makes enjoying the creative works even more fun! Everyone, please do check out works featuring these three unique settings!
