“SIREN” is Japanese horror game, sold on 6th November, 2003. Most famous Japanese horror game could be “BIOHAZARD”, but this is also a deeply-rooted famous and first-rated horror game.
Compare to “BIOHAZARD”, its setting is at typical Japanese village, and main characters are also Japanese. Also, there are no loud action scenes. Basically, it is about enjoying the feeling of thrill and terror by running away from the enemies… that is to say, very scary(;^_^) Not like “BIOHAZARD”, you cannot escape from the enemies by using the weapons killing them. So you can always be at a tense atmosphere because you are too scared to come across with the enemies. In addition, the graphics of every character was structured based on actual human being, so it seems so real that strikes more and more terror into your heart(;≧o≦)
Well, let’s go back to the story now. It begins at a village that main characters stopped by out of mere curiosity. They were involved in this secret ceremony that isolates them from the world they used to live in. Moreover, people from village becomes corpse one by one, who have a charmed life. Even for those who did not turn into corpse, some of them oppose to the main characters. So the main purpose for the main characters is to go back to their reality despite of all corpse and opponents.
The story includes so much factors of traditions, religions, and folkways, and it really is very terrified story(;^_^) I felt that the story excited me and my fears of Japanese old legend and common saying. That is to say, it well describes Japanese-made horror that capture the heart of fans very well( ゚ ∀ ゚ )=3
Now, I’d like to introduce one of the main characters, Kyoya. As a setting of the game, you are to play several characters in turn, but basically story put the focus on him. At the very beginning, he is just a high school boy, very full of curiosity. He only entered the village because he was interested in urban legend. However, as story goes on and met the heroin Miyako, he becomes stronger and prepares himself to settle the situation. You would be surprised to see all the situations he faces are quite cruel for just a high school boy like him. But interestingly, I think that the ending awaits him can make you more fascinated into the story. Personally, I could say “SIREN” as the best of pure Japanese horror game. Especially, I strongly recommend for those who has as much curiosity as Kyoya!!
