This story is setting in Kyoto which is a good old historic city. Human, raccoon dog and long-nosed goblin, those change themselves into human live here. Shimogamo family live in Tadasunomori forest. A breadwinner father Shimogamo Souichirou is a chief of raccoon dog’s world. But one day, he was caught by "Friday Fellows" gentleman's club and eaten as raccoon dog pot... .
This is racy comedy filled with laughter and sensation revolves around long-nosed goblins, raccoon dogs and human. Yasaburou is the third son of Shimogamo and the protagonist whose motto is “The interesting is the good”. Yaichirou is the first son who is earnest, stiff neck and chicken out at the last moment. Yajiro is the second son who transformed himself into a frog and does not feel like doing anything always. Yashirou is the fourth son who is shy in nature and his tail often pop out when he's frightened.
Of course the story of The Eccentric Family is interesting but my recommendation is its atmosphere! Good old buildings and scenery in Kyoto are well depicted with good atmosphere. I think the characteristic of The Eccentric Family is obsessiveness with details such as scenery from window and river current.
My favorite character is The Eccentric Family is Yajiro who is the second son of Shimogamo and his cousin Kaisei. Yajiro appears not in the form of a raccoon dog but a frog. The reason why he transformed himself into a frog becomes increasingly clear. I was gooey-eyed when I saw the story....
The story Yajiro transformed into Eizan train and he ran through Koyoto with his father in the past is very interesting and having a sense of family love.
Kaisei, who is a cousin of Yasaburou was his intended. But after Yasaburou’s father Souichirou passed away, Souichirou’s younger brother Ebisugawa Sōun annulled engagement between his daughter Kaisei and his nephew Yasaburou. However, even after their engagement annulled, Kaisei helps Yasaburou in many ways and takes thought ofr shimogamo family.
Kaisei hided herself from her first appearance. But, she reveals herself in episode 9! What is more, to our joy, the scene is she is in the bath!ｷﾀ━(ﾟ∀ﾟ)━!! I guess there are many people who became curious about the scene. I couldn’t keep myself saying “wow!” lol Not only who became curious about the bath scene but also who wants to enjoy the atmosphere and fell family love must see this anime! Of course I recommend The Eccentric Family to who wants to laugh!
The original of The Eccentric Family is a novel written by Morimi Tomihiko. There are episodes which are not depicted in the animie. So, if you are interested more when you watch the anime, please read the novel too!
