It was televised from year 2000, only on WOWOW scramble, pay broadcast. The director is Yoshitomo Yonetani, who achieved fame by “King of Braves GaoGaiGar”. And the scenario and making were handled by Hideyuki Kurata, who handled many famous productions after this piece of work, including “Kannagi” “Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai”. More importantly, you should note that Keinojou Mizutama is involved in this piece of work. He is a famous SF illustrator, especially well known for a padded cloth pictures to for SF novel. Takahiro Kimura’s work is quite strongly and easily seen compare to Keinojou Mizutama’s, yet the fact that such a famous SF illustrator like Keinojou Mizutama is involved in this piece of work, even though he rarely makes a draft of animation characters… This made the product worth watching!!
It is a typical SF animation. The story was based on Osaka, 1969, right before Osaka Expo held in 1970. Marin (main character) was attacked by mysterious Monomakia emerged out from different-dimension world, Brigadoon. Then Melan, who is Monomakia by himself, helped Marin from the attack. They commune with each other through the fights, and discover the truth about Brigadoon & Earth.
The most notable point of this piece is….. Marin, who has such a humble, heroic, and admirable prettiness!! She was an abandoned child. She worked herself off to help the family finances, and was bullied at school. Yet, she is a very cheerful and smiley girl. The voice actress for Marin is KAORI, but you might know her as Midori Kawana, who sang a song of “Drill de Run Run Kururun Run”, from “D4 Princess”. She has such a high and cute animated voice, but is taking days off these days from her voice acting due to disease of the vocal cords. We all are sorry for her sickness, and hoping for her to get better anytime soon.
Back to the story, it was quite a long piece, 26 stories. In the beginning, it was mainly about Marin and her life, as well as fighting with Monomakia. As story goes on, description and development bring readers to the heart of its stories. Like the unique director that Yoshitomo Yonetani is, he produces his pieces by always thinking how to make an impact on viewers’ heart.
There weren’t many people watched it because it was shown on a WOWOW scramble, but it is definitely recommended, especially for the fans of SF productions!!
