Nisekoi is a weekly romantic comedy manga series by artist Naoshi Komi (Double Arts).
Serialization having started November 7th, 2011, it has made it’s name on the manga scene as
Shounen Jump’s staring romantic comedy, now getting an anime adaption by Studio SHAFT
(Madoka Magica, Monogatari Series).
It is the story of Raku Ichijo, a young man searching for a certain girl from his past. His childhood
crush that he remembers solely by a pendant, while the girl in question carries the key. On one
fateful day, Raku is kneed in the face by Chitoge Kirisaki, a transfer student from America. Being
tied into “false love” by family gang issues, Raku must play the part of Chitoge’s girlfriend, in front
of his current crush, Kosaki Onodera. Raku’s self proclaimed fiancée joins into the picture,
alongside Chitoge’s own childhood friend, a hitwoman codenamed "Black Tiger." Chaos ensues.
Komi’s art is full of life, being the goto
manga for a large assortment of reaction faces. The
character designs are faithfully reconstructed for the anime, assuring for pure visual eyecandy.
Though story progress is not key for the series, it more than makes up with short stories
featuring a wide cast of heroines in a fun romantic comedy that does not need to rely on
gimmicks such as fan service.
