“Nourin”…, when imaging the content only from the title, is it the story to tell us the greatness and difficulty of agriculture, like “Gin no Saji (the Silver Spoon)”? I once have thought like that.
No, some parts are serious. Such parts suggest us the issues we must deal with sincerely like the future aspect of Japanese agriculture, which the author Mr. Shiro Shiratory found out though his steady gathering activities.
However, basically it is filled will parody; we can enjoy without thinking anything difficult.
That’s because the title itself has the atmosphere of a certain anime featuring a rock band club….
The story is set in Gifu Prefectural Tamo Agricultural High School. It was modeled after Prefectural Kamo Agriculture and Forestry High School in Gifu Prefecture.
In this work, actually existing school and railways were used as a model, so "pilgrimages to the holy land" can be organized there.
The mayor of Minokamo City is a fan of the original work, when the anime project was decided on, he posted a comment on it.
Hata Kousaku, a 2nd year student at the Production Science Department is an idol nerd from a family of farmers. In his dorm room, he keeps character goods of "Yukatan", Kusakabe Yuka in high amounts and even send Yukatan some self-grown vegetables, while leading a peaceful life.
Until news reach him, that Kusakabe Yuka suddenly decided to retire. Due to the shock, Kousaku barricades himself in his room, but his friends, Nakazawa Minori and Kamatori Kei somehow persuade him to return to school life.
Then, a new students arrive in class, who turns out to be Kusakabe Yuka, now called Kinoshita Ringo...
I tried seriously to write down a plot synopsis, but half (more?) of Nourin is made of parody.
Yukatan's "You're the cutest in the world" is obviously associated with "person inside", the voice actress Tamura Yukari... The concert scene in anime episode 1 was great, wasn't it?
Even in the original novel, on the first page, some lines are printed in a bigger font (World Cup!), the illustrations and text are mixed to form something like a comic (Are you stuuuuupid?), it's eccentric even for a light novel.
It's a story you'll either love or hate, but I like it. The contents are fun, while being a hardly working trainwreck, I think writing like this is acceptable just as well.
My favorite character is Nakazawa Minori, as of now. Becky's entire being is mean, so I guess she deserves a place in Hall of Fame as well. Wakadanna isn't even a human, so she doesn't count.
The childhood friend character, being pulled around by Kousaku. Voiced by Hanazawa Kana, she's the dialect-speaking busty beauty.
I have the impression that she appears without clothes rather often. Good. Gimme more.
I can't wait to see which heroine will Kousaku choose... In the end he could always say "You're all like wings to me!"
