Some of you might already know me if you have read the previous News Letter. (･ω･)ﾉ 

I’m kind of having a hard time getting used to this work, since I was a college student until recently.

 

 

But I want to spend time chilling out at home or doing my pastime when I’m off, don’t you think so too?  By the way I recently got into....

Nihon-tou (Japanese sword) is hot!  What’s the “Touken Ranbu” which is now a topic of conversation?

 

 

It’s quite natural that girls carry Nihon-tou in the Samurai’s country of Japan.... ( ･v･)σ 

Nah... I’m just kidding!  Recently in Japan, a game which is related with swords is super-hot.  The title of the game is “Touken Ranbu”!  What on earth is this game like?

 

 

 

1.What is Touken Ranbu?

 

 

 

 

Touken Ranbu is an online game collaborated by Nitroplus and DMM.com. 

Even though they just started offering the service on January 2015, the users exceed 500,000! 

This record is quite rare as a browser game, even when we compare it with another popular game, “Kancolle” made by the same DMM.com. Σ, we can find the pace is faster.（・□・　）

2 Player’s mission and other companions

 

 

You, a player, take the post called, Saniwa. (審神者)

Using a special ability, Saniwa is to fight with the enemy which is going to change historical events. 

The special ability is...... to give life to “an object”, giving it a human’s figure! (ﾉﾟ⊿ﾟ)ﾉ:*:･｡,☆ﾟ’･:*:･｡

The characters appearing on the game are the old and historical swords that tuned into human figures by this ability. 

There are so many attractive characters, having various legends, which used to be the belongings of Japanese soldiers and samurai...! 

Collecting these swords and fighting enemies with them, making those swords strong... this is your duty in Touken Ranbu.（ ・▽・）

The enemy of the player is known to be the troop who tries to manipulate or modify various events that were conducted in the past.

They emerge in the old time of Japan and try to change the ending of incidents that actually happened during that time! 

The player (you) will challenge them to a fight to prevent it from happening, with those swords’ ~ the characters companion!

There are currently seven types of swords which Sanwa fights with. (You will see more and more types of the swords from now on!) 

The biggest charm of this game, Touken Ranbu, is that the best way of fighting differs, according to each character or type! 

Saniwa makes his team assembling six swords’ characters well and fights against the enemy with the team. （ ・ω・）

Now, let me introduce some of the characters to you!

 

 

 

 

 

 

3 Characters full of individualities and seven types

 

 

 

★Tantou (短刀)

“Tantou” is the character who you can easily get at the beginning of the game. 

It specializes in the swift movement, while having a low level of offense and defense! 

Let me talk a little about one of the Tantou characters, Sayo Samonji here.

 

 

He will be a great encouragement for you, especially at the beginning of the game, when you really don’t have enough fighting forces, since he has a high offensive capability, compared to other Tantou! 

Unfortunately, Sayo-kun wouldn’t trust humans including the main player, Saniwa, because of his tough experience in the past. (´・ω・`)  (What made him become such a person...?  I’ll tell you about this circumstance at his character page.)

 

His personality itself is so honest that many Saniwa thinks they want to be closer to Sayo, and they want him to be happy as well. 

He has two brothers by the way.  Those Samoji brothers are so popular that we even have Doujinshi whose themes are about them too. (o’ω’o)b

 

 

 

★Wakizashi (脇差)

 

Just like Tantou, Wakizashi is the character who you can easily get at the beginning of the game. 

The general capability is a little higher than Tantou and it specializes in having a high ability of “Scouting”! 

With this ability, you will discover what kind of battle-formation the enemy will attack with. 

It is a big role in your team, even though it has a low level on defense or hit-points!  Here is an introduction of one of the Wakizashi characters, Horikawa Kunihiro kun.  (※This is not his usual outfit.)

『今日は畑仕事だね、頑張ろう！』

“Working in the fields today, huh? Let’s work hard!”

 

(oゝω・o)σ He has great strength of character, being good at housework and caring! 

He longs for the character, Izuminokami Kanesada, whose owner was the same as his, and a special event happens if two of them appear at the same time. 

Even though Horikawa-kun is usually a kind boy, you might be able to see his unexpected color in battle....?

 

 

 

★Uchigatana (打刀)

 

Uchigatana is similar to Tantou and Wakizashi, but its offensive and defensive forces are superior to the two swords. 

Since Uchigatana has average ability value with fewer defects, the player who became Saniwa is to choose one from five Uchigatana characters at first.

Many Saniwa seem to keep the one he/she chose the entire duration of the game. (｡・∀・｡) 

I’ve been using Kashu Kiyomitsu that I chose first too, by the way!

 

 

He has a high status of “Scouting” and often discovers the enemy’s movement. (*^o^*) 

Since Kiyomitsu is very fashionable, it’s also fun for us to see his outfit when he is usually fighting or when we ask him for some help. 

I recommend that you see his outfit when we ask him for working in the field!

(If you ask him for the field work, “Scouting” and “Hit-Points” sometimes go up.)

 

 

★Tachi (太刀)

 

This type of sword is well-balanced both on offense and defense! 

But you have to be careful when they have the battle in the night’s map, since their offensive capability goes down so far.... 

In that case, take Tantou or Wakizashi with him, and they will be so active in that battle. (｡･ω･)ﾉﾞ

 

 

Speaking of Tachi...., it’s Mikazuki Munechika!

 

This is the only sword whose rarity level is five, which is the highest score. 

It’s super strong..... but the rarity level=difficulty level of availability... 

Yes, Mikazuki is the most difficult sword to get. (´･ω･´･ω･´･ω･`)  If you are able to get it, you are the luckiest person!

 

Since he’s so old and said to have been made in the 11^th century, he calls himself, “Jijii” in the game. 

He looks like such a beautiful boy though!  He keeps his own pace and is always calm, which heals us. (*´ω｀)p

 

 

★Oodachi (大太刀)

 

Oodachi’s strong point is... Guess what? Being able to attack several enemies simultaneously! 

Most of the swords are able to attack only one enemy at a time. 

But Oocachi can attack three enemies at the same time. (*ﾟ∀ﾟ) 

Since its offensive and defensive forces are overwhelmingly higher than other swords, you might want to get this type of sword as early as possible. 

On the other hand, since it lacks swiftness, you might need to reinforce it, using items, so that it can perform more stable fighting.

 

 

The representative character of Oodachi is Hotarumaru. 

It looks like a boy, even though most Oodachi characters look like adult men! 

You might think he looks like a Tantou, but he has the highest level in swiftness among all the Oodachi characters. 

So if you can raise him well, he will be able to defeat the enemies with such high speed.... (｡･д･｡) 

Of course his charm is the strength in battle, but I have one more thing that I like about him... 

It’s Hotarumaru’s voice!  It’s hard to describe but his voice sounds sweet and a little weary as if he is sleepy? 

Such a voice always heals me....  Dependable and cute!  I love the gap about him!

 

 

★Yari （槍）

 

 

This type of character can create great damage to the enemy, because it can attack them without being bothered by “Armory”, which is one of the items to raise ability. （ ・▽・）

When characters attack the enemy, they usually get damaged first through the shield which is the item (troops) they equip. 

The stronger the enemy gets, the more items the enemy gets, which takes a lot of time for the character to defeat them. (･ω･` )

 

But... guess what!  This Yari can pierce those items and give damage directly to the enemy’s body!

 It’s reassuring if you have Yari in your troop, isn’t it?  Of course, we will get in a pinch if the enemy has Yari, though.... ((((ﾟДﾟ))))

Here’s Tonbokiri, who is one of the Yari characters. 

Since he has much more Hit-Points compared to other characters, he can beat enemies surely, enduring the enemy’s attacks! 

You see how strong he looks?  But he actually interacts with the main player, Saniwa, very politely. 

His image is just like a knight, isn’t it? (・ω・*)  He is the one we definitely want to get both strategically and characteristically!

 

 

★Naginata

 

 

Naginata is specialized in being able to attack the enemy of a whole troop with six people at the same time! 

When the level is still low, it might not be able to give big damage to the enemy. 

But if you raise it well and make the level higher, it will grow so strong. 

If you take it to the very first stage, it could beat all the enemies by itself....!!! 

Unfortunately, there is currently only one character in Naginata types yet....

 

 

His name is Iwatooshi. 

You might get a little scary impression from him at first, since he is huge and has incisive nails and teeth. (｢`･ω･)｢ 

But he is not scary at all!  Since his voice is loud, you might be able to get surprised at the sound, especially when you have the head-phone on.... 

He seems to like something small and alert and he takes really good care of Imanotsurugi that Tantou has. (・∀・) 

When you want to raise the level of Tantou whose defense ability is low, take him with Tantou. 

He will beat the enemy for Tantou!  It’s so heart-warming to see huge Iwatooshi being surrounded by small children that I just grin to myself. ( ⌒▽⌒)

 

 

Q. So.... which character is the strongest anyhow?

 

A. Everybody.

The difference of each character’s ability can be covered by the levels.

If the levels are high, you can win on any stage. 

Let’s take over various stages with your favorite characters!

 

 

4 Evolving game, evolving enemy!

 

 

How did you like all the introductions?  They are all unique and attractive, aren’t they?! ｡ﾟ+.(･∀･)ﾟ+.ﾟ 

You will be fine even if you see strong enemies in the game, as long as you are with these companions! 

But... Guess what!  The very strong enemy that we have never seen before appeared in the event, along with the recent update.....

The name of the enemy is “Kebiishi”. 

He appears if you clear the same stage again and again.  

Honestly, he is incredibly strong! 

Everybody in your troop might get big damages, even if their levels are high. （；´Д｀）  Beware!

 

But if you are able to beat Kebiishi without almost any attack, you might be able to get a rare sword that you can never get from anybody. (ﾉ・д・)ﾉ 

We can’t wait to know more details about Kebiishi to be clear, since his true color or purposes are wrapped in mystery!

 

 

★The strong enemy appearing event held in spring and newly implemented characters as their rewards!★

How do you like Touken Ranbu so far? 

It’s still a new game, so there will be more new systems or events to be seen! 

The sword known only by its name or that sword you know might come to Saniwa pretty soon? 

Not only its game but its various goods or Doujinshi have been released as well. (*´ω｀)/

Touken Ranbu is super-hot and has been fascinating all the anime fans in Japan right at this moment!!!

Since the English version of this game has not been distributed yet, not many foreign people know about it! 

But!  I believe that it will be animated someday!  Definitely it will!
