Hello everyone. I'm Boss from Otaku Republic, and I'm still avidly reading Shonen Jump.
Hello everyone~ I'm Saori from Otaku Republic, and I sneakily read Shonen Jump after Boss has finished!
So! Today we're focusing on a topic related to Shonen Jump! The new anime season starts in 2023 and...... guess what! A series currently serialized in Shonen Jump is getting an anime adaptation!
【Fall 2023 Anime】Serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump! A grand adventure with misfortune and immortality! Undead Unluck is finally getting an anime in October!
What is Undead Unluck?
Undead Unluck is a battle x dark fantasy manga that's currently being serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump. It started in 2020, and up to volume 17 has been released so far!
It has been nominated for various manga awards and has even won some, right?
Exactly. It won first place in the comics category of the Next Manga Award, and has sold 1.5 million copies worldwide. It's a pretty hot topic and popular series recently! So when the anime news broke, I remember there were people who said, 'Yay!' and those who said, 'Makes sense, it's popular.'
The quest for the “ultimate death” by the immortal and the unlucky!? What is Undead Unluck all about?
Undead Unluck is essentially a story about two individuals born with curse-like special abilities—“immortality” and “misfortune”—forming a team to seek the “ultimate death.”
(To summarize in a nutshell) That's right. The story has many foreshadows and I don't want to spoil it, so to explain briefly, it's about Andy, who is “immortal”......meaning he can't die no matter the situation, and,
Izumo Fuuko, who indiscriminately bestows “misfortune” upon anyone who touches her. It's a story about these two.
The two were unfortunately born with the “worst” abilities. What they aim for is......the “ultimate death.”
Andy, who can't die, realizes something when he meets Fuuko, who indiscriminately brings bad luck to anyone she touches. He thinks that if he stays with Fuuko, the “ultimate death” he desires might come to him.
Exactly. Fuuko has been living without interacting with anyone for nearly 10 years since she found out about her ability, following a tragedy where her parents, who had hugged her as a child, died in an “unfortunate” plane crash. However, she starts to change little by little after meeting Andy, a guy who is too chaotic to handle—more like she starts interacting with people for the first time in 10 years and begins to grow rapidly.
What I just told you is more or less the initial plot, but actually, more interesting secrets will be revealed gradually. So, please! Please! If you enjoyed the anime, I’d love for you to read the manga as well! For those who can’t wait, go ahead and read up to Volume 17 by October! It’s a title I’m really looking forward to, so definitely check out the anime starting in October!
