Well no, I’m seriously thinking about it...... I haven’t bought much of the Fire Emblem series, so I’m worried whether I would enjoy playing it or not. Because I know Saori has played it already, I want you to review it a bit! The descriptions can be Saori, your opinion, just keep plot-spoilage to the minimal possible please!

Got it! Then let’s go right ahead and check what I personally find engaging, and what I think Boss would like!

The most important point before buying a series game!
“I haven’t played the previous series but is it ok to buy it this time!?”

Let’s start by answering Boss’s question! Can you enjoy playing Fire Emblem Engage without playing the previous Fire Emblem series?(will the story be understandable?)

To begin with the conclusion, you can absolutely enjoy Fire Emblem Engage a lot even without playing the previous Fire Emblem series!(the story will make sense).

Ooh~ good! But, when I look at the visuals for Fire Emblem Engage, it looks like it has the previous Fire Emblem series’ characters......

That’s related to the story actually, so I’ll explain it later! Why do the previous characters from the Fire Emblem series appear? Here is the reason why!

Previous Fire Emblem series characters are summoned & assist in battle as ‘hero from the other world’!
They fight for the ‘Emblem Ring’ in which the characters are sealed!

First, the previous Fire Emblem series characters appear in the story as (doppelgängers of) heroes from the other world who are asleep inside of ‘Emblem Rings’! Then Fire Emblem Engage’s main story is about a possible revival of an evil dragon (Fell Dragon) that once tried to destroy the world! In order to stop this, the player’s goal is to collect 12 Emblem Rings spread over the world! That’s the gist of it!

I see, are the characters from the previous series in a position to contribute to Fire Emblem Engage’s main story?

Yes pretty much! The main character (Alear) is a Divine dragon that sleeps in a sacred area, Somniel. A thousand years ago, Alear battles the Fell Dragon that tried to destroy the world. Even though Alear managed to seal the Fell Dragon, he went into a long sleep after from using enormous energy.

Dragon? But it looks like human?

Fire Emblem series dragons sometimes appear in the human form.

Wow~~~~~. So the main character is a dragon in the form of a human.

Going back, an evil organization trying to revive the sealed Fell Dragon attacks the sacred land where Alear is! Alear senses the world’s danger, and thinks to borrow the power of ’12 Emblem Rings’ that together sealed Fell dragon in the past! These rings have heroes from the other world sealed inside, and even one can be an enormous power!

I see, so the purpose of the journey is clear and easy to understand.

Yes! So, if you have played the previous Fire Emblem series, you will get to enjoy nostalgia when previous characters appear, but one of the good aspects is that the main story is definitely understandable regardless!

So even if I play it, I’ll understand the story. Glad to hear that~!

You should just buy it if you’re that curious about it.

Well, when I read various reviews, I saw reviews that say ‘battle is fun but the story is better for the Fire Emblem: Three Houses,’ so......

Well~ I also agree with that. But Fire Emblem: Three Houses has especially focused on excellent storyline among all Fire Emblem series, so I feel like that comment can’t be helped when comparing Fire Emblem: Three Houses to Fire Emblem Engage.

Personally, if you were to ask me what’s most appealing about Fire Emblem Engage? I think it’s the fact that they evolved the Fire Emblem series-specific-battle so it’s easier to play with added depth! Boss, you tend to really like the simulation-type, highly strategic games like chess, right? Fire Emblem Engage battles are attractive in similar sense because the ‘characters’ roles are clear,’ and ‘slight battle disadvantages can be overcome based on player’s own strategy’!

I see, so for enjoying a deep story, the Fire Emblem: Three Houses is good. And for enjoying deep battles, you would recommend playing Fire Emblem Engage.
