Hello everyone~! It’s been a long time since I last wrote the Coupling Column. I’m excited though! It’s Saori from Otaku Republic!!

So! June is going to end soon…… We’ve reached the first half of 2020 too…… That means…… 2021 is coming soon!? (Not quite……) So today, we’ll feature a Coupling Column of the HOTTEST Anime in 2021! It’s THIS!!

So today, I’ll write the coupling column of the title, TIGER & BUNNY, whose Season 2 was officially announced to produce and air in 2021! So…… check this out for a quick review of some of the chara!

Barnaby Brooks Jr. x Kotetsu Kaburagi【KoteBani, ToraUsa】

The relationship of the two: The same ability but the opposite personalities! The best partner!

Who Is Barnaby Brooks Jr?

He is one of the heroes, who fights under the sponsor logo, at the near future city, called Sternbild City.

He is one of the few people who registered his name as the same as his real name, “Barnaby Books Jr.” (Most heroes use the different names to protect their private lives.)

He is cool and calm but thought to be a rationalist, who is always outspoken. He does his work perfectly but hates wasting. His policy is “being smart and cool” and often helps those in need. That’s why he conflicts with Kotetsu.

He has an ability called “Hundred Power” (which increases his physical capabilities such as strength to 100 times for five minutes a time.) Kotetsu Kaburagi has the same power as well and because of this common power, they will start working together as the first “Buddy Heroes” in the hero industry.

There are some secrets such as the reason why he works as a hero or the reason why he uses his real name as a hero, which will be revealed as the story goes on……

Who Is Kotetsu Kaburagi?

He is a veteran hero who paired up with a buddy hero, Barnaby Brooks Jr.

The veteran hero does sound good but he gradually loses his popularity. He ends up breaking things, prioritizing humans’ lives instead of his fame. That was the reason why he was made to pair up with a buddy hero, Barnaby Brooks Jr, from the solo hero, by the sponsor, which was a rare thing in the hero industry.

He is very dynamic but values honor and human kindness. He tends to care about people too much and conflicts with Barnaby Brooks Jr, who tends to be smart.

He’s married but his wife passed away before the story began. He has one daughter he cherishes. Since he works as a hero, he lives separately with his daughter. He calls her every day and is a little overprotective.

His ability is also a “Hundred Power” (increasing his physical capabilities such as strength to 100 times for five minutes at a time.) However, since he originally has the high physical ability and wears the hero suits, he is just as good as younger Barnaby when it comes to the combat. He’s deeply looked up to not only by the citizens but also by other heroes because he always prioritizes humans’ lives.

They have the same abilities but each has totally the opposite stance. This might be the secret of the popularity of TIGER & BUNNY! Even heroes have their private lives, individuals, dreams and wishes. When they first paired up, they were not comfortable together but as they started understand with each other through the heroes’ work, they started facing the subjects; ‘What is a hero?’ or ‘Who do we exist for?’

It’s heartwarming to see them fight but it’s also attractive to see them beat up the villains together~! This is a MUST combination in this anime!

Keith Goodman x Ivan Karelin【SoraOri】

The relationship of the two: A super serious hero, and an introvert and a little twisted hero

Who Is Keith Goodman?

He is a super serious boy, who loves justice and peace. He is also a hero, fighting against the villains, under the sponsor logo.

He voluntarily patrols in town (even when he is not a hero). He makes efforts and tries to complete any issues wholeheartedly. At the beginning of the story, he was ranked in No.2 as the hero. He is literally a “hero” both at work and at a private life.

His hero name is “Sky High.”

He is able to create strong gusts of wind on command. He has the outstanding skill of attacking and the high accuracy. He has a variety of tactics such as moving swiftly in the sky, creating blasts of winds and a giant spiraling ball of wind, and cutting things in half, concentrating all his powers. When he has an interview, he usually makes his favorite pose with his favorite catchphrase “Thank you, and again, Thank you”. Therefore, all his fans gives him this mark.

Who Is Ivan Karelin?

He is usually an introvert and shy boy. He is also a hero who fights against the villains under the sponsor logo.

He’s quite young among all the heroes appearing in anime. While he works as a hero, he easily gets shocked when he sees his good work, getting flamed on social media. We can see how much he loves Japan from his jacket, which has the embroidery ‘JAPAN’ on it or his outfit, looking like a ninja.

His hero name is “Origami Cyclone.”

But he is a little different from the normal heroes. He mostly “appears” in the background of photos and broadcasts to please his sponsors. His ability is to “shapeshift”. It’s not to “transform” so he cannot copy any of the attributes such as strength or NEXT powers of a person he changes into. When he is a hero, he is extremely cheerful, not like him in his private life, so not so many people recognize him.

These two have exactly the opposite personalities and the image of the hero in a good sense too, huh? In anime how they face their failures and seek for their best hero image are similar too! You see so many Anime Goods of them together too! Check them out!

Ryan Goldsmith x Barnaby Brooks Jr.【ShishiUsa】

The relationship of the two: Newly-paired buddies but……

Who Is Ryan Goldsmith?

He is a new hero who appears in the sequel of the movie version.

He is younger than Barnaby Brooks Jr. but he has some experiences overseas, which ends up pairing up with Barnaby, ordered by the sponsor.

His personality is an “easy-going young fella”. He is super cheerful and energetic and is never scared of having any relationships. He is very confident, saying “Everybody in the world will obey me!” or “Kiss my boots!”, and is also able to read between the lines both in a normal life and in the battle with high skills of judgement and adaptability.

The hero name is “Golden Ryan”. He has the ability “to create a gravitational field within the radius of 30m (≒98.4 feet)”, specializing with the attacks and the supports.

Since he worked overseas, he has truly been popular and having good skills. Therefore, the video, where he arrested the criminal, was played and seen 1,000,000 times.

Ryan is easy-going, while Barnaby likes to be smart. They conflict too like the combination with Kotetsu-San but the ways they conflict are different. That’s why it’s so fresh and makes us feel nostalgic! In the anime version, Barnaby controlled Kotetsu-San, while in the movie version, Ryan controlled Barnaby…… I bet many people like to see Barnaby who we cannot usually see? Unfortunately, we can only see two Chara in pair in the movie version but in Season 2, airing in 2021, you might be able to see them longer……? Season 2 is a MUST-Check!
