【2021’s Must Watch Anime】Season 2 of Cells at Work! and Cells at Work! Black.

Hello everyone! It’s Saori from Otaku Republic and I’m somehow getting healthier and happier mentally after I ate ice cream in the middle of the night.

This is weird. Even though I hadn’t been able to eat chocolate mint flavor, after I tried this new flavor, white mint & chocolat, from Häagen-Dazs, I just eat a lot of them……!

I understand you are healthy mentally but get healthier physically too! Or else……!!

……their ‘working environment’ will be tougher!!

What is Hataraku Saibou?

The story takes place inside the “human body”, where trillions of “anthropomorphic cells (Saibou)” do their jobs to keep the body healthy! The “cells” are personified and the story shows us how each cell works when people get “sick” or “injured”. It depicts so clearly and comically! The manga has released up until Vol. 6 so far! Season 1 of Anime aired in 2018! And guess what? Season 2 will be air in January 2021!

It sure is fun as an anime but above all, we can learn a lot from each story, so I strongly recommend this title!

What’s happening in our bodies when we get injured or sick? Since they are all personified, it’s so easy to understand how they work and more importantly, this makes us think that we should take care of ourselves ever more! What a lovely Anime, huh?

We’re working hard today too! Here are some of the cells (Saibou), which appear in Anime!

Red Blood Cell (AE3803 / 赤血球)

We should say she is the main character of this story. She is dressed like a delivery man, mostly delivering oxygen and carbon dioxide to all over the body. She is cheerful and brave but she often gets lost because she has just started this job. Even though she is a hard working girl, when something irregular happens to her, what she can do is to run away since she hasn’t had any ability to protect herself yet. (She somehow tends to be involved with troubles, though.)

White Blood Cell （U-1146 / 白血球）

He looks scary but is actually a kind young boy. His job is to kill pathogens infecting the body. Despite his ruthless occupation, he’s quite soft-spoken and gentle. Once he finds something abnormal or the bad virus and germs, his personality changes completely. He often meets AE3803 (red blood cell) and they both get involved with troubles. Sometimes he is so worried about her that he follows her so she won’t get in trouble.

Platelet（血小板）

A type of cell responsible for reconstructing the body after various injuries. They are mostly depicted as children, due to their small cell size, and act as construction and repair crew within body. They are hard-working cells but they also tend to get involved with troubles because the germs or pathogens are trying to get in from the wound.

Wow. They work so hard for us, huh……? We have to thank them……

Right…… Even though a little injury or sickness might sometimes be nothing to us but to them, that’s a big deal……

This one airs in 2021 too! What’s the difference between Cells at Work! And Cells at Work! BLACK?

Well…… The spin off airs at the same time as Anime? It’s quite rare, huh?

Yes! This is a story where other cells work in the different human’s body from the one at Cells at Work!

That workplace (human’s body) was BLACK (Hell).

The main character is a man, a Red Blood Cell. Stress hormones keep yelling at him to go faster. The blood vessels are crusted over with cholesterol. Ulcers, fatty liver, trouble (ahem) down stairs…… It’s hard for a cell to keep working when every day is a CODE BLACK!

I’m glad to know that it airs simultaneously with the regular version. Because this one is more serious and this might make me feel sorry for the amount of alcohol I usually have……

So you guys! Why don’t you give a try? Cells at Work Series will air in January 2021! Get to know more about your body and be nice to your body!
