Saori(゜∇ ゜) “Hello everyone! Have you been enjoying spending a long fall night, feeling Halloween or 2019 Fall Anime~? Yeah~ and I can’t believe this Coupling Column today is Vol.10, already! I hope many people are reading this segment… Let’ go for it, believing that they are! The title of this special Vol.10 is THIS!

 

 

 

【Coupling Column】Vol.10 Kuroko no Basuke!

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “It’s the perfect title for this special Vol.10【Coupling Column】! We will feature the couplings whose matches are Kuroko Tetsuya-Kun in Kuroko no Basuke!”

 

 

 

★Kise Ryouta x Kuroko Tetsuya【KiKuro】

 

The relationship of the two: The former trainer and his trainee and the present rivals who never want to lose

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “First, let’s review Kuroko-Kun, who is the special figure for this【Coupling Column】! Honestly, I wonder if there’s any Otaku Republic visitors who don’t know Kuroko-Kun… He’s that famous now in Manga and Anime industry, huh?”

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “Kuroko-Kun is a first-grade student at Seirin High School. He doesn’t have much physical strength and is short, compared to other chara appearing in manga, Kuroko no Basuke. He takes advantage of such negative sides and him,【not having much of a presence】, for playing basketball, he is now good at being a supportive player to other players by passing them a ball from blindside, ending up scoring points. His personality is calm and quiet…. but again, is so passionate that he doesn’t like to lose! His motivation toward the basketball is so strong that he focuses on the game too much and everybody says ‘he never knows how to give up’!”

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “And Kise-Kun, on the other hand, is tall, has a high physical strength (and is good-looking too). Yes, he’s a super player. Ever since he was a little boy, he has managed anything quickly and easily and he didn’t even have to look for things he wanted to devote himself to. For better or worse, he is completely opposite to Kuroko-Kun, who is not in great shape and doesn’t have a high physical strength.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “Such a perfect boy, Kise-Kun, loooooooooves Kuroko-Kun!! He visited Kuroko-Kun, who went on to a different high school from him in Anime, and asked him to transfer to his school. He made such confident remarks; ‘Kuroko-Kun and I were the best friends in middle school’ or ‘Give my Kurokocchi back’ (to Kagami-Kun)… Incredible! We see full of love here, huh?”

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “Even though they went to different high schools and became the rivals after all, they belonged to the same basketball club when they were middle school students. This is, what we call, ‘Kiseki no Sedai’, where all the excellent and talented players, who were formed in Teiko Middle School’s basketball team, got together, huh? (It has often become controversial if Kuroko-Kun was a member of the Kiseki no Sedai or not but let’s suppose he is here.) Kise-Kun wasn’t playing basketball back then but he got interested in it when he saw a player, who played outstandingly, ending up joining the basketball club. Of course he was less knowledgeable when it comes to the basketball, Kuroko-Kun was chosen as his trainer.”

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “Kise-Kun came to love Kuroko-Kun so much, being trained by him… that’s true but… These two were actually a little awkward at the beginning. Rather, Kise-Kun was looking down on Kuroko-Kun, calmly saying ‘Why do I have to be trained by Kuroko-Kun, who plays worse than me?’ “

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “Kuroko-Kun, of course, said ‘I didn’t like Kise-Kun in a good way’, looking back on their middle school day. That’s because he knew that Kise-Kun was way more outstanding in playing basketball than him, watching over him as his trainer.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “That’s why Kuroko-Kun respected Kise-Kun and thought of him as his best rival. ‘I…. I mean… I’ve been thinking of you as a rival since then.’ In Anime, Kise-Kun seemed more conscious about Kuroko-Kun but Kuroko-Kun was actually conscious about Kise-Kun as well… That’s their relationship. No doubt this coupling gets so popular, huh…?”

 

 

 

★Akashi Seijurou x Kuroko Tetsuya【AkaKuro】

 

The relationship of the two: Ex-teammates and, the one who found the other and the one who was found by the other

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “As I showed another picture at the beginning, they somehow look alike and their height are almost the same by 5 cm (≒2 inches) too. Their personal colors are different. Their relationship is just like ‘a last boss and a main character’ if we compare them to chara in a story. Yes… they’re somehow similar but are in totally different positions.”

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “Like I mentioned above, Kuroko-Kun is inferior to other players in his height and physical strength but the reason why he was able to play as a main player, which is the same level as the Kiseki no Sedai, is because Akashi-Kun found his genius talent in him, where he can support other players. In short, Akashi-Kun is someone who Kuroko-Kun feels thankful to… But…”

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “Yes… Akashi-Kun was the last and biggest enemy in Kuroko no Basuke. He is literally a last boss and just so strong. He is a son of one of the Japan’s distinguished families and he, no joke, ‘doctrines that victory is everything’. He thinks that victory matters in this world and winners always are right, believing that ‘I’m right, because I’m always a winner’. Moreover, (The line got revised a little in Anime but) he even said ‘I would even kill my parents if they were against me’. Yes, he is a character, who is a champion chara who reigns the top.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “… like this, he tends to be depicted radically but actually, that’s not his true color. I cannot tell you this here because it will be a spoiler but Akashi-Kun is never be a violent character. He’s the one who keeps a secret. I just want you to understand that at least.”

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “The relationship of such Akashi-Kun and Kuroko-Kun is depicted deeply especially around the final episode. When they were in the middle school, Akashi-Kun found Kuroko-Kun’s talent. Therefore, he was expecting Kuroko-Kun’s active role. Kuroko-Kun was trying to reach his expectation but… Kuroko-Kun ended up leaving the basketball club due to various incidents happening in the club, which will strongly effect their actions afterwards… And they will finally meet and compete around the final episode.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “How… how should I say… These two… their relationship was so deep not only in the present but also in the past… Akashi-Kun was the one who expected him and Kuroko-Kun was the one who was expected by him. As a result, Kuroko-Kun left the club but the gap of Akashi-Kun’s middle school day and Akashi-Kun who meets him again at high school… The combination of this gap and how he changes when he talks and behaves toward Kuroko-Kun is one of the attractive parts in this story…! Therefore, the episode where you can casually watch is rather the ending part of the episode so… check out around the final episode of Anime!”

 

 

 

 

 

 

★Kagami Taiga x Kuroko Tetsuya【KagaKuro】

 

The relationship of the two: Light and shadow, the best friends and the partners supporting each other.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “As I mentioned above, Kuroko-Kun spent such an incredible middle school basketball club life. And he joined the basketball club, where Kagami-Kun was, when he went up to the high school. He chose the school where he would never be with any players of Kiseki no Sedai.”

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “Kagami-Kun is, what we call, a main character of the basketball manga, who is tall, has a high physical strength, and has a ‘sixth sense’ where he can play faster than anybody else! He’s passionate and never wants to lose but is polite and is never violent at the same time. What’s more? He’s not good in his academic side, taking 0 score on the test. He is straightforward, being a little playful at a time.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “Actually, Kuroko no Basuke begins when such Kuroko-Kun and Kagami-Kun encountered. Kagami-Kun, who Kuroko-Kun met at the basketball club at high school, challenged Kuroko-Kun, thinking that Kuroko-Kun might have been a member of Kiseki no Sedai. But Kuroko-Kun was not good at all. He was too poor at it. Kagami-Kun, was going to leave there, getting tired of such a boring game. Kagami-Kun advised Kuroko-Kun, ‘This is not your thing. Give up and do something else.’ However, Kuroko-Kun replied, ‘I like basketball’. And he went on, ‘I’m not like you. I’m… a shadow’.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “Kagami-Kun finally understood what it meant next day. There was a mini game of the newcomer players’ team and the current players’ team. The newcomer players’ team was overwhelmed at the current players’ team. Even though Kagami-Kun wasn’t inferior to the current players in ability, he had a difficulty playing against many more players in number. While the new comer players’ team almost gave up winning the game, Kuroko-Kun secretly said him, ‘I’m sorry but can you just pass me a ball one time?’”

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “That pass got to one of the newcomer players who was right under the goal in such a natural way. Such passes reached so many scores and they were only one point behind from the current players’ team. However, Kuroko-Kun’s missed the shot when the time was almost up…”

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “BUT! Kagami-Kun got the missed ball and performed a beautiful dunk shot!! Kuroko-Kun was surely poor at playing when it comes to 1 on 1 but he becomes stronger when he plays with a strong player… Kagami-Kun finally realized that Kuroko-Kun plays a shadow which shines the light even more.”

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “After that, they admitted their strength each other. Kagami-Kun got interested in the members of Kiseki no Sdai and asked Kuroko-Kun, ‘What if I played against the Kiseki no Sedai?’ Kuroko-Kun replied, ‘You’ll be killed in an instant.’… Then let’s become No.1 in Japan, beating everybody there! That’s how the story started.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “This is how they started fighting together… Kuroko-Kun said ‘I was going to take advantage of Kagami-Kun, to beat Kiseki no Sedai.’ But as they fought together, Kuroko-Kun started feeling impressed by Kagami-Kun’s serious attitude toward the basketball… Gradually, Kuroko-Kun started trusting Kagami-Kun and kept going, aiming for the victory as his true partner.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saori(゜∇ ゜) “So! We shared some couplings whose main chara was the main character, Kuroko-Kun this time! I know there are a lot more characters in this story so I’m thinking of sharing couplings of other characters next time! So… check that one out too!”
