6: Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki 陸奥守吉行

He is a sword that Sakamoto Ryōma used to own in Edo era.

Of course Sakamoto Ryōma was such a strong swordsman but there’s an anecdote about him that he also followed the latest trends, saying “Swords can be useless in front of the guns” or “We have to know more about the world than the guns from now on”. That being said, the sword, Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki, which Sakamoto Ryōma used to cherish, also loves the gun.

He is one of the characters that we can choose first in Tutorial and he speaks Tosaben (a dialect of Kouchi Prefecture, in Japan). He’s always cheerful, energetic, so curious and passionate about anything new that he always tries them. Since he is very friendly, I’m sure you’ll be encouraged by him!

In OP, the tea cup that was right beside him was specified as the one that Sakamoto Ryōma used to use. Right after that, all the Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki’s fans started buying them and they even ended up becoming sold out. His nickname is “Mucchan”..... Oh? Isn’t there a character with the same nickname in Kantai Collection - Kan Colle – too...?

7: Namazuo Toushirou 鯰尾藤四郎

Since his name has Toushirou in it, he’s one of the siblings of Awataguchi brothers.

Even though he has the sad past, in which his owner and he were both burned out, he has such a positive character, saying “I was burned out and lost a part of my memory but I won’t look back such a past!”

 

 

He loves to take care of people around him and he especially cares about his brother, Honebami Toushirou (left one in the picture), who was also burned out and lost his memory. When he takes care of his horse, he sometimes puts all the manures together and mutters himself “I’m gonna throw this at someone I hate~”...

I never expected that he would do that (throwing the manure at someone) in anime but he actually did it.

Yes, that is Namazuo. Yes, he is cheerful and a trouble maker. But that’s his charm.

8: Kasen Kanesada 歌仙兼定

He is a sword that loves something beautiful or elegant. He’s also one of the characters that you can choose first.

When his owner, Hosokawa Tadaoki, killed 36 vassala retainers, he said, “Speaking of the number, 36, a famous poet at Heian Era was also called “36 Kasen(三十六歌仙)”. What a coincidence! I’m just gonna name this sword “Kasen” too!” That’s how he was named. It’s crazy, right?

On the contrary, he has such a calm personality and even enjoys Waka (a traditional Japanese poem) or calligraphy in anime. He’s the character who cherishes mind of always wanting to express beauty or seasonal transition with letters or art.

That’s what I was thinking about him.... But actually... I saw him doing things in a rough-and-ready manner such as substituting an iron dumbbell for a paperweight for calligraphy in 3^rd episode of anime. Way to go, Kasen. That’s what makes us more familiar to him, huh? I also saw his official character introduction, saying “He has a habit that he manages to do things with his strength (when anything happens to him)”. That being said, it won’t be long before we are able to see his inelegant manner...

9:  Souza Samonji 宗三左文字

Hi　Ra　Ri。

Souza-San appeared in the way that has a big impact right from the 1^st episode.

He used to be owned by great people who governed Japan such as Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu. Espceially Oda Nobunaga cherished Souza-San so much that he even carved the seal “Oda” on the sword (Souza-San). That’s why Souza-San has been cherished as “a symbol of a ruler”.

At the same time, Souza-San had never been used as “a sword” in the battlefield.

He hadn’t been able to play any role as “a sword” in the battlefield even though he had been really cherished by people in the past.

That’s why every time we take him to the battlefield, he looks a little lively.

Even though his words and deeds are ironic and negative, he looked a little happy when he obtained the MVP.

He’s so scary though when he gets mad.

In anime, his brother Sayo Samonji (Sayo-Chan) also appeared and we can see their harmonious relationship there. They don’t seem alike but that’s the best part. Aren’t they cute?

 

 

10:  Yagen Toushirou 薬研藤四郎

When his owner tried to stab himself in the belly, he used Yagen Toushirou but ended up not being able to die... The owner got mad at it and tossed the sword, when Yagen (a device to make medicines) got broken perfectly in half. Since then, he’s had an anecdote saying “He breaks Yagen apart but never hurts his owner”. Hearing it, Oda Nobunaga started cherishing the sword as well.

 

 

 

 

Even though he looks immature, his words and deeds are horribly manly with handsome voices, which makes his fans want to call him “Yagen-Niki (薬研ニキ)” *Niki is a short way of saying Aniki (兄貴= big brother in Japanese). FYI, Saori and Ayami call him that way too.

How handsome he is...?

When he defeated the enemy, he says something that he cares about the players, such as “I'll pierce you 'til the hilt!” or Ayami’s favorite line “General, are you dozing off? Don't catch a cold.” So cool.

 

 

In 3^rd episode of anime, he was developing some kind of weird medicine.

He is always hoping to develop medicines that can cure his buddies even though they taste so horrible. He’s always considerate of others to support his buddies or players not only in the battlefield but also in his daily life. Saori (I) is looking forward to watch the episode which will depict about an interesting story with the medicine he develops.
