★Saori Press Vol.84★A special article for Spring culture!

2016-04-07

By the way, what is that thing going on? A special article for Japanese culture in spring!

(*´・∀・) “Hello everyone. Speaking of April, it’s new anime. Speaking of the new anime, it’s Bonobono. It’s Saori from Otaku Republic, who hasn’t been able to watch it since it starts at 5:00am in Japan.”

(  'ω') “Hello everyone. Speaking of April, it’s April Fools Day. I’m sorry to have caused trouble on April 1st. I’m Otaku Republic’s Boss. My Dakimakura pillow is not gonna be on sale.”

■Emergency! Otaku Republic’s best bargains are ready to pre-order■

(*´・∀・) “We were about to deliver items which were cursed in the world, you know? How serious were you though?”

(  'ω') “I was serious enough to actually have bought a swimwear and a reflector board. I was so excited that I was ready to sell that item, you know? The cameraman (a programmer working at Otaku Republic) looked even more excited, right?”

(*´・∀・) “There’s no way we could sell such a dirty item to the world. Plus, you shouldn’t interrupt the programmer’s work too! It was good that his hobby is taking pictures at least, you know? This is one of the busiest seasons for Otaku Republic, okay?”

(  'ω') “I’ll tell you what. Otaku Republic is always busy.”

(*´・∀・) “Oh well. So, it’s April. It’s kind of busy season for Japan too. It’s time to have a new life for people who graduated from school or moved out! Wait a minute! Haven’t you wondered what the expression appearing in anime means? So today, I’ll share some of Japan’s weird culture specialized in spring!”

(  'ω') “Here we go! This is a serious version of Saori Press, which you’ve recently been into, right? What kind of information are you gonna share with our friends this time? I bet it will gonna be something that is not that useful but familiar in anime, no?”

★Graduation Ceremony Version

★Floral Decoration on the Chest (corsage)

blog.livedoor.jp

It’s depending on each school but ‘it’s a floral decoration that students (who are not going to graduate) give to students who graduate from school’. There might be this kind of custom in foreign countries as well but I shared this since we often see this scene in Japanese anime. Basically, it’s according to a name list as to who’s going to put the decoration on who; But if the one who is going to put on his or her friend, he or she gets so happy. By the way, when Saori (I) graduated from school, our decoration was a red ribbon. And one of the members of the club activities, which I belonged to, put the red ribbon on me. I was so moved that I cried.

★Diploma

‘This is a certificate conferred to students who graduate, which certifies their attendance and what they have learned.’  Usually, the principal calls students’ names individually and hands them directly to each student. After that, students are given the special cylinder-shaped container to put it in and bring them to home. The black cylinder-shaped thing that you often see in anime is this. Please note that it’s not a long rolled sushi with seaweed.

★Farewell Address

blogs.yahoo.co.jp

It’s a ‘Farewell Address’. This is the address that a representative enrolled student gives to all the students who graduate, which usually includes an appreciation and ale for them. Basically, the appointed representative is the member of the student council or the one whose grades are excellent. The manuscript is usually made by the teacher and the representative student only read it out. But most of them appearing in anime make their manuscripts on their own. That moves people more. (Especially about the actual experiences that they had) By the way, there is another address called ‘Touji (答辞)’ which is supposed to be a response towards the farewell address, which the representative of the students who graduate give to enrolled students with appreciation.

Most of the time, they are expressed by making a speech, but there are some exceptions too. If students give something special and unique like that, the students who graduate will be happy!

★The second button from the top of the uniform

matome.naver.jp

The battle has begun.

There is a custom in Japan that ‘we get the second button from the top of the uniform from the one we like on the graduation day’. There are some theories of the reason why it has to be the second button from the top: it’s the closest from the heart, it looks untidy if the first button is missing (they give the first button away as a memento) when they are dispatched to the war, the second button is said to be touched most by the owner... But it really doesn’t matter which one is correct. Anyway, all the juniors come to the ones who they like to get the second button as a commemoration of their graduations. Of course, there’s only one second button. Yes, the battle has begun.

★Entrance Ceremony・Club Activity Presentation

☆Welcome Party for Freshmen

A couple of days after the entrance ceremony, the ‘welcome party for freshmen’ takes place.

‘Welcome Party for Freshmen’ is an event where they introduce what kind of club activities the school has. The representatives from each club activity present what kind of activity they do to get the new members. In short, nobody will join the club unless they present on that day. That’s how it works. If you see this party in anime, you see some members doing something extraordinary which they never do usually.

They end up messing it up though.

☆Class Replacement

exemptyjmpd.blog3.fc2.com

The hell has begun.

When they go up to the next grade, they have the class replacement. This is such a big event for students to change their school year since they might have to be separated with their friends in the same class at the previous class, while they will see new classmates in the new class. Even though it’s such an important event, they are just forced to be separated, which disappoint the students.
