Although it’s already available on Blu-ray and other formats, it's amazing that the full movie is finally coming to TV! In just a few weeks, “Gegege no Nazo”, the prequel to “Gegege no Kitarou”, will air on television! That means even those who’ve been holding out can finally check out “Gegege no Kitarou: Gegege no Nazo”, the defining anime movie hit of 2024!

However! Which version is being broadcast!? If you've already seen one, there's fun in comparing the different versions!

When fans heard the news about the TV broadcast, I’m sure the first thing that came to mind was: which version are they airing? The answer is...... the R-12 rated version will be shown! Please note, this is not the R-15 version known as the ReBirth version that aired later in 2024!

So, what’s the difference between the R-12 rated version and the R-15 ReBirth version? To get straight to the point: the runtime and story are exactly the same! However, the direction differs significantly. Even the same scenes have totally different camera angles, and the R-15 ReBirth version enhances the eerie atmosphere and showcases the originally intended brutal moments—so it’s pretty scary! It’s not a complete overhaul of the film, but many key scenes are re-edited and restructured, leaving a totally different impression after watching.
So after watching the R-12 version airing on July 12, if you find it interesting, definitely compare it with the R-15 ReBirth version! You’ll see the more brutal, more beautiful side—and understand exactly why this movie became such a huge hit in 2024!
