Kaiju No. 8 is set in a world where kaiju invade. It portrays the endless battles between the frequently appearing kaiju and the Defense Force that stands against them...... The protagonist, Hibino Kafka, is a young man who, despite being human, gains the ability to transform into a kaiju. At first, Ichikawa Reno looked down on Kafka, but she was moved by his determination to protect the city even as a kaiju. Now, she is a reliable partner who supports him as a fellow Defense Force member!

These two weren’t close from the start but built a strong bond of trust through fighting kaiju together! Both are serious—perhaps too serious—and have a strong sense of justice, making them highly compatible. They're seen as a great buddy duo and play an active role in the main storyline!

Ichikawa Reno and Furuhashi Iharu are rivals in the same unit! But not in a hateful way—they compete while also cooperating, constantly pushing each other to improve in a friendly rivalry!

Iharu may look like a delinquent, but he’s actually very passionate and cares deeply about his comrades! He’s cheerful and a bit rough around the edges, but above all, he values his fellow fighters. Though there’s a considerable age gap among some team members, these two aren’t that far apart in age and are often seen together, which I think makes them a popular duo!

In Kaiju No. 8, many units are formed to exterminate kaiju, but Narumi Gen and Hoshina Soushirou stand out as some of the strongest characters in the story! Gen is the captain of the First Division, and Soushirou is the vice-captain of the Third Division! (Gen is a new character who will make a full appearance starting in season 2 of the anime!)

They are both powerful warriors who protect the city! But of course, they're not exactly on friendly terms—their compatibility is terrible! Gen, in particular, sees Soushirou as a rival because of his many kaiju kill records. The interactions between these two powerhouses, which haven’t yet been shown in the anime, may be revealed in the upcoming second season airing from July!
