And so! After several years since the anime adaptation of Part 6, it’s finally been announced—Jojo Part 7: Steel Ball Run will be animated! Congratulations~!

Do you need to watch from Part 1 to understand it? What’s the story and setting like? Can beginners follow along?

saori
To answer that: Jojo Part 7: Steel Ball Run retains the concept of Stands from Parts 1–6, but the setting and timeline are entirely new. Characters from Parts 1–6 don’t appear—it’s a fresh world and cast! (Why that is gets explained in detail at the end of Part 6, so be sure to check that out!)

Set in 19th-century America! Participants and their Stands compete in the first-ever horseback race across the continent, aiming for a massive prize and eternal glory!

So what kind of story is it? While retaining some elements, the world and characters are brand new. Set in 19th-century America, it follows a horseback race across the continent! The winner earns an unbelievable amount of prize money and honor, and many participants enter the race with their own goals and their trusted steeds!

Two protagonists: Gyro Zeppeli and Johnny Joestar! If you’ve read Parts 1–6, these names will definitely ring a bell with strong connections!

Jojo Part 7: Steel Ball Run features two main characters! Gyro Zeppeli, who seeks honor for a certain reason, and Johnny Joestar, a former elite jockey who is now paralyzed from the waist down. Though technically rivals in the race, the two grow to deeply respect each other’s values and work together to face the harsh competition.

Even though the world has changed, names like Zeppeli and Joestar still appear—echoing characters from previous parts. You don’t need to know Parts 1–6 to enjoy Part 7, but if you do, it’s even more fun!

So before Part 7 begins, it might be fun to rewatch Parts 1–6 if you have the time! It’ll probably air around 2026, but even if you start with Part 7, it’s made to be easy to understand and enjoyable—so let’s look forward to future updates!
