Hello everyone~! This is Saori from Otaku Republic!

A social game I was quite interested in got adapted into an anime, and its first episode just aired, so I checked it out! In conclusion, although it felt a bit rushed, it was a solid episode that made me go, 'Ah, this is what wizards are about! Nice~.'
【Winter 2025 Anime】It's Been a While Since I've Seen 'Magic' Depicted This Thoroughly in Anime. The First Episode of the Classic Fantasy Game Adaptation, Promise of Wizard, Was Quite Good!

The social game Promise of Wizard (Mahoutsukai no Yakusoku), which launched in 2019, has finally been adapted into an anime! What are my thoughts on the first episode......? (These are just my personal impressions.)

So, the first episode of Promise of Wizard (Mahoutsukai no Yakusoku) aired, and I checked it out! I must say, it was good! It was much easier to follow than I expected, and I think it was a solid introduction to the story!

To briefly recap, Promise of Wizard (Mahoutsukai no Yakusoku) is a currently popular social game! After nearly five and a half years since its 2019 launch, it’s finally been adapted into an anime! The main story's first arc is complete in the game, and the second arc is being released in installments! I assume the anime adaptation will faithfully cover the entirety of the first arc of the main story. (Just my guess, though!)

So, the anime's protagonist is Akira-chan, a girl who loves cats. One day, she gets on an elevator to visit a friend’s house, but somehow she ends up in another world where wizards exist! And to top it off, that world is about to face a 'great calamity' and an unimaginable crisis!

In the game version, you can choose the character's name and gender, but for the anime, the protagonist was given a specific appearance and name to make it easier for viewers to objectively follow the story.

As for my overall impressions of the first episode, I felt it was a bit rushed. But it wasn’t a bad thing—it seemed like the faster pacing was intentional to help viewers quickly grasp the world, characters, situations, and goals within the first episode. Since the game is originally a solid visual novel, there were a lot of Akira-chan’s inner thoughts (monologues), which helped convey her feelings about the new world and the mysteries she encounters. I mean, anyone would be surprised to suddenly end up in another world—let alone one full of magic! (The mouse was adorable.)

Personally, when it comes to recent 'otherworld' stories, I tend to think of swords and battles! But it’s been a while since I’ve seen a world with 'wizards who actually use magic' depicted so well. It’s very Harry Potter-like—a world where magic is the focus, and you gradually experience and understand the mysteries and excitement of that world. Seeing wizards actually flying on brooms—now that’s something I haven’t seen in a while!

So, while it’s still the very beginning and there are many settings yet to be revealed, I think it was a solid first episode that captured the world and the 'excitement of magic' really well! The pacing was a bit fast, but you can still grasp the core story, and even those who know nothing about Promise of Wizard (Mahoutsukai no Yakusoku) can understand and become interested through this episode. Plus, since the first arc of the game is already complete, it’s great that you can play the game if you want to know more!

In conclusion, this first episode is packed with the desire to make you know more about Promise of Wizard (Mahoutsukai no Yakusoku)! Even if you’ve never played the game, it’s a story you can understand in 30 minutes, so be sure to check out the freshly aired first episode!
