So, there you have it! Isn’t it amazing? Two works by the manga artist Wayama Yama-Sensei are getting anime adaptations! They’re slated to air in 2025, and because both stories are short and interesting, more and more people are picking up the original manga!

● A Live-Action Movie Was Also a Big Hit in Japan! “Karaoke Iko” Depicts the Unlikely Friendship Between a Yakuza and a High School Student!

The first work to be adapted into anime is “Karaoke Iko!” The story is very simple: a yakuza, for certain reasons, must quickly learn how to sing well, and he forms a connection with a choir boy. The story is short, just one volume, but both the characters and the easy-to-follow, entertaining plot have gained immense popularity! It was even made into a live-action film in Japan, and I believe the unexpected success of the movie greatly influenced the decision to make it into an anime!

The second work being adapted into an anime is “Muchuu sa, Kimi ni. (Captivated, by You)!” This one has also been adapted into a live-action drama in Japan, but what kind of story is it, you ask......?
Miro Hayashi, a second-year high school student, was too captivating.
His enigmatic way of life mesmerized many people around him......!
This is a youth ensemble story composed of 8 short episodes, centered around Miro Hayashi and Akira Nikaido, a second-year high school student who, after being too popular in middle school, sought a peaceful life by “reverse high school debut” (aiming for an inconspicuous and quiet lifestyle).

This one isn’t a BL manga; it’s a youth story, and thanks to the live-action adaptation, it’s quite well-known in Japan. What makes it interesting is how Wayama Yama-Sensei portrays the fascinating interactions between characters—when these intriguing individuals meet, the story develops in a way that’s just too engaging! You can really feel that in this collection of short stories!

You can easily read it in one volume!

Both are quick reads, so I have a feeling they’ll be adapted into one-cour anime (around 12 episodes)! Be sure to check out “Karaoke Iko” and “Muchuu sa, Kimi ni. (Captivated, by You)!
