First of all, the Holy Grail War is a recurring and unfolding battle in the Fate series. The rules are quite simple. Seven individuals, known as Masters, fight until only one remains, all seeking the Holy Grail, which can grant any wish. These Masters summon the 'shadows of historical heroes,' known as Servants, and together they fight as pairs until only one pair remains. In Fate/Samurai Remnant, these seven Master-Servant pairs also battle for the Holy Grail.

Betrayal, alliances, trust......! The plans and intentions of each faction, Master, and Servant intertwine! That’s the thrill of the Holy Grail War!

A pair is eliminated from the Holy Grail War if the Master dies, the Servant is destroyed, or they declare withdrawal from the war. Generally, Servants fight each other, and the pair whose Servant is defeated must withdraw...... but there are factions that target the Master's life directly. Thanks to this rule, even weaker factions that would lose in a Servant battle can win by eliminating other Masters directly. Also, there’s no rule against forming alliances, so enemy factions might team up to take down a specific opponent early on. In this way, the Holy Grail War is a chaotic battle where the strongest doesn’t always win!

In Fate/Samurai Remnant, the Holy Grail War takes place again. Miyamoto Iori, the adopted son and disciple of Japan's strongest swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi, is suddenly 'dragged into' the Holy Grail War. Despite having no desire to participate, he is chosen as the Master of a Saber-class Servant and forced to join the battle.

Iori’s partner in this battle is a Saber-class Servant with a mysterious and old-fashioned aura, who appears to be both a young girl and a boy. Some pairs get along well due to similar personalities and preferences, while others look down on their Masters and refuse to follow orders.
