tabimo.jp

(=´∀`)ノ “Hello everyone~!! Speaking of fall, I have to say ‘Tsuki-mi Burger (‘Moonlight-View Burger: it’s a seasonal hamburger, whose egg resembles a beautiful moon)!! It’s Saori from Otaku Republic!!!”

twitter.com

(  'ω') “Everything you say is about food, it seems like...”

Σ(゚д゚;) “Whaaat!!! Any problems?!!! What’s the matter with you?!! Tsuki-mi Burger is so delicious, you know?!!! Stop saying something negative like that! We just started such a fun Saori Press, okay?!!”

(  'ω') “You’re totally correct! Especially on today’s Press, we’ll give our friends some ‘knowledge’ about something!!!

●●Give me a five-minute, and you’ll know what the Sports Day is! A special article for the Japanese Sports Day!●●

(`ω´) “Saori (I) thought about something! In this season, we see a Sports Day in so many anime!!”

twitter.com

(`ω´) “But at the same time, there’s no anime where they kindly tell us what the Japanese Sports Day is, you know?!”

(  'ω') “True.”

(=´∀`)ノ “If that’s the case, let me explain about it! Are you guys ready?! Just scroll down! What a magic! You’ll get familiar with the Japanese Sports Day quickly!”

(  'ω') “Oh? What kind of explanation, though?”

(=´∀`)ノ “Something like this!!!”

★Kouhaku Boushi (紅白帽子) (Red and white reversible cap)

The front side is red and the back side is white.

Students are supposed to show their own team’s color (a red team or a white team) when they put it on, on a Sports Day.

Also, if we put it on, showing both colors with half and half, it looks like Ultraman.

Take a look at this part of the lyric of “Omoide wa Okkusenman”, which is famous in NikonikoDouga.

『子供の頃 やった事あるよ

I've done this when I was a kid

色褪せた記憶だ 紅白帽 頭に

It's a faded memory, a red and white cap on my head

ウルトラマン ウルトラマン セブン

Ultraman! Ultraman Seven!

This part says about the childhood memory when he was wearing this red and white cap.

(  'ω') “The last explanation was necessary, though?”

(=´∀`)ノ “Alright, are you guys still with me?! It might be useful, or not? Let’s learn more about such a deep Japanese Sports Day!!”

★Pankui Kyosou (パン食い競争) (Bun-Eating Race)

Each player runs to a bun that is hanging on a string. Each player tries to grab it with his or her mouth. The players must do this without using their hands. (Some schools have their hands tie in the backs) Then they run to the goal with the bun in their mouths.

Since all the buns are hanging on a string at about the height of their head, they are required to jump to the buns. Usually, buns are Anpan (a bean-jam [=anko] bun). It’s delicious. I wonder if it’d be okay with curry-bun, instead...

★Tama-Ire (玉入れ) (Beanbag Toss)

Each student tries to put his or her team’s color beanbag into the basket set up in a high place. The team which gets more beanbags in the basket will win.

Especially students who belong to the basketball club (being good at a free throw) or the baseball club (being good at throwing balls), or tall characters mostly play a good role in this competition. But since it is set up at a high place, it’s almost impossible to put the beanbags directly, like a dunk shot in a basketball game. It’s almost impossible.

★Relay Race (リレー)

This competition always comes at the end of the Sports Day. And it’s the most exciting one.

Students who can run fast from each team are selected and take turn in the relay.

The batons are passed by each runner and are brought to the goal. The team whose baton reaches the goal first is a winner.

There’s also a relay race, in which they don’t use the baton as well.

In the sports festival which usually takes place in spring, they compete against each ‘club activity team’. Each member wears their own uniforms when they run. This also becomes an invitation announcement for the new students.

Only boys in the swimming club run since girls have to wear swimming suits. It’s ridiculous.

★Tsuna-Hiki (綱引き) (a Tug of War)

It’s a sport that directly puts two teams against each other in a test of strength: teams pull on opposite ends of a rope with the goal being to bring the rope a certain distance in one direction against the force of the opposing team’s pull.

The secret of winning this competition is a bond of solidarity.

It’s very important to shout with everybody since both teams pull the rope at the same time. It’s also very important to balance everybody’s weights.

It’s the competition of a bond of solidarity, not the individual power... maybe?

★Ninin-Sankyaku (二人三脚) ( Tree-Legged Race)

Make a pair and tie each student’s right foot a left foot together.

Then they run like that to the goal. It looks simple but it’s very hard if we actually try.

It’s very hard just to walk. You’ll see if you actually do it.

If they are not perfectly in tune with each other, they might fall down before they can even start running.

It’s a little exciting making a pair with the other sex student since they naturally get very close with each other♥

★Shougaibutsu-Kyousou (障害物競争) (an Obstacle Race)

As you can see in the name of the competition, students run to the goal, overcoming various obstacles: jumping the vaulting box, walking on the balance beam and going through the web, etc...

Actually, this competition varies, according to the area we live in.

For instance, the provide various challenges such as putting their legs into the hemp bag and jumping to the goal, and putting their bodies into the cardboard, getting down on all fours and trying to reach the goal. If you have any friends from Japan, it might be interesting to ask them what kind of obstacle they had in their childhood as well.

★Kibasen (騎馬戦) Cavalry battle

twitter.com

It’s a competition which competes to get caps or headbands by two teams. Three of four player form scrum and prop one player on cap. They move around t to get enemy’s caps while protecting their own cap. If the cap is taken, the team loses. The winner is who takes more caps during the game period.

No Weapon Use. NO.

★Karimono Kyousou (借り物競争) ( Scavenger Hunt Competition)

Each student draws one paper out of the box and brings the ‘object’ that is written in the paper to the goal. To win this competition, they have to be fast runners or smart runners so they can find the object as soon as possible.

pm001.blog84.fc2.com

The object varies.

If it’s ‘a pair of glasses’, and what if a girl or a boy who you love was wearing it...?

If it’s ‘a person you love’ and what if you had someone you love in your mind...?

This is such an awesome competition that you can get closer to the one you love.

(´ω`) “Yep... I love sports day... it’s a precious scene of the youth, huh...? It also comes perfect in pictures...!

(  'ω') “Ahhhh... well... you’re not wrong but there were a couple things that I wanted to poke fun at you, though. But I believe all our friends felt something fun?”

(=´∀`)ノ “So, you guys! Now you won’t have any difficulties understanding the Sports Day even when you see it in anime! If your friends don’t know anything about it, it’s your turn to explain about it!!”

(  'ω') “Alright then, it’s time to say good bye! We’ll see you all at the next Saori Press~!”
